Background:
Nigeria is one of the limited number of countries in the world that still has the death penalty. However, according to figures in 2007, the number of executions are low at just 6. China, by comparison is the table topper with 470 executions. Meanwhile, the total prison population of Nigeria is an estimated 40,000 prisoners, the 36th highest in the world.
