If the water is heated by <a href=http://www.howstuffworks.com/nuclear-power.htm>nuclear energy</a> or <a href=http://www.encyclopedia4u.com/g/geothermal-power.html>geothermal heat sources</a>, the electricity is not generated from fossil fuels.</p>">In response to <i>gpastor@imf.org</i>:<p>The term "fossil fuel" refers to fuels containing hydrocarbons (molecules made of hydrogen and carbon) such as oil, coal and natural gas as well as refined products produced from these including petrol, diesel, kerosine and methane.
